Before garden, wine or
grape were in the world
our soul was drunken

The Storygardens Association was founded in 1999, with Roman Villa Silj, and around a group of old families and friends who had beautiful residences to rent in Italy. These villas, landscapes and tales have supported my activity as a writer, historian and storyteller.
Roman Villa Silj is the prototype storygarden.
Membership of the Storygarden Association costs €uro 50 and gives you the following benefits:
The Book. One copy, upon arrival, of my book on Italy (300 pages with some beautiful photos). You can see some of the excellent reviews on our website This book has a special relevance to this storygarden, since it was written at the Roman Villa. You will be able to read the extraordinary tale of this Italian-English-Irish family. You will be able to relive all of the adventures of Carmen, the first traveller who came here: follow her explorations in central Italy, look out of the same windows…..
"Carmen Via - A journey in the songlines of Italy"

A conversation, a cup of coffee, a glass of wine... In these last ten years I have been privileged to share conversations with so many wonderful travellers in this garden. I have spent many hours telling and listening to tales under the veranda or under the palms, and Linden tree. This is just a natural process of the storygarden: to share good, slow time together.
Atarassia was the term Epicurus gave to pure contemplation and tranquillity. Outside his own garden Epicurus wrote: "Stranger, here you will do well to tarry; here our highest good is pleasure.
If I am staying at the Roman Villa during your stay, I will be happy to sit with you over a cup of coffe or a glass of wine
